Can't sleep...

  • Feb. 8th, 2008 at 6:15 AM

Why? Because now that Herbert has two months left and he is getting ready to send things home...I have realized NO ONE except for my Aunt Marie and members of my church have sent my husband ANYTHING. My husband has been gone for 5 months and has missed many important holidays including the birth of his second daughter. It's time for me to make new friends. I'm shocked at my current friends and realized they aren't true friends. Is it that hard to send a card? My husband is out there in Iraq defending, fighting, protecting and sacrificing for all our freedoms. Everyone is so wrapped up in their own lives and if something doesn't impact you directly then I guess it doesn't matter. Oh well.

Week 40

Car Seat Safety

Hi Jennifer,
Even though your baby may weigh over 20 pounds, don't be tempted to turn her car seat around to face forward. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that babies remain in rear-facing car seats until they weigh at least 20 pounds and are at least one year of age. If your child is in a front-facing car seat during an accident, she is at risk for cervical spine injury.

Cell Phone

My cell phone has died completely...I will alert everyone when I get a new one...so if I don't answer or reply to text msgs that's why. :(

Week 40 in Your Baby's Development

  • Dec. 6th, 2006 at 7:55 AM

KayLee loves to imitate you at this stage and might mirror your movements as you brush your hair or teeth. Toys that represent adult objects, such as a play telephone or tool set, will be among her favorites right now. Mimicking is an important way for your baby to learn.

KayLee is getting close to taking her first steps and may lift one foot off the ground to take a practice step while standing with assistance. If she has mastered crawling and standing against furniture, she is probably very close to cruising, or walking while holding onto furniture. If you have several pieces of furniture close together she will love to walk around them all, as long as she doesn't have to completely let go at any point.

KayLee's stomach and back muscles are increasing in strength, and her balance is improving. She can go from lying on her stomach to a sitting position all by herself, and she can also recover her balance well while sitting. When crawling, she can now balance on one hand while reaching for an object with the other.

Week 37 Baby Tip

Hot Water Dangers

Hi Jennifer,
Hot tap water causes nearly one-fourth of all scald burns among children and is associated with more fatalities and hospitalizations than other hot liquid burns. Hot water burns usually happen in the bathroom, and tend to be more severe and cover a larger portion of the body than other liquid burns. A child exposed to tap water at 140 degrees F for just three seconds will sustain a third-degree burn; severe enough to require hospitalization and skin grafts. Turn down the temperature of your home's hot water heater to 120 degrees F to avoid hot water injuries, and always test your baby's bath water before you put him in.

Week 39 Baby Tip

Lead Poisoning

Hi Jennifer,
According to the National Safe Kids Coalition, an estimated 1.7 million children, age five and under, have lead levels in their blood high enough to affect their intelligence and development. The most common cause of lead poisoning among children is the ingestion of dust from deteriorating lead-based paint. More than 80 percent of publicly- and privately-owned housing units built before 1980 contain some lead-based paint. To limit your child's exposure to lead in the home:
  • Always have your child wash his hands before meals, snacks, nap time and bedtime.
  • Keep your child away from chipping, peeling and flaking paint.
  • Keep the areas where your child plays as dust-free as possible.
  • Do not allow your child to chew or suck on painted surfaces such as painted window sills, cribs, playpens, or old painted toys.
  • Wash pacifiers often and pin them on a short ribbon to your child's shirt.
  • Keep your child's clothes clean by changing them frequently.
  • When playing inside, place a clean blanket on the floor or carpet for babies to play on. (Always keep the same side up and wash often.)
  • Wash toys and stuffed animals regularly.

Friends Only!

  • Nov. 8th, 2005 at 1:46 PM

Just thought I'd make my LJ "Friends Only" since it can be very private and since it's time to clean off the friends who don't use LJ or I don't have contact with anymore. Comment with a reason why I should keep you on my friends list. I've cleared my friends list and will add your name as you comment.

Thanks everyone! :)

Music

  • Oct. 18th, 2005 at 11:32 AM

Okay so I don't think I am being totally emotional here...but I find when I listen to certain songs they pluck at my emotions (be it good or bad).

What in the world would I do without music!? I LOVE it!

Geico

  • Oct. 14th, 2005 at 9:46 AM

Is it me or does GEICO have the absolute worst commercials ever!? Gosh they are so dumb they irritate me. If it wasn't for all the money I save with them I would switch just because I really dislike their advertising.

Shopping Spree

  • Sep. 16th, 2005 at 8:12 PM

Wow I have been sleeping a lot today. For some reason I have just felt so exhuasted today. Now that I am up and have had dinner I thought I'd take a few minutes and update.

Last night my girl Margot picked me up and took me shopping. She bought me 2 maternity shirts, a pair of maternity pants, a night gown/slip and she even bought the baby a cute little outfit. I felt so spoiled! It was so sweet of her. I was just happy to see her and be out of the house. I am very thankful for her generosity and gracious spirit.

Now I am sitting here waiting for my husband to call me in a few minutes when he gets off work. My husband has been incredibly sweet today too. I feel very blessed!

Going to listen to my baby's heartbeat now. :)

Change

  • Sep. 14th, 2005 at 9:13 PM

Just wanted to let everyone know I took down the BabyKeaton Journal. It was too much to try and keep up with the LJ and the website. I'd much rather focus on one and make it nice. I have moved all the entries to the website and will continue to update on here and all big announcements on the other site and this site. So don't forget to bookmark that site and PLEASE sign the guestbook when you stop by. It should be signed everytime you stop by. This is for the baby and will be posted in our baby book so go ahead and comment. :)

Trying to get back...

  • Sep. 9th, 2005 at 8:14 PM

I realize I need to get back into my LJ. Now that I am pregnant it can help me as far as relaxtion techniques go. So here is a vow to get back.

RIP Tony

  • Aug. 25th, 2005 at 11:55 AM

This morning my mother went to let Tony, Boo, Spooky and Pokey in the house to eat and sleep and they rushed in the door as always. Then my mom and dad went upstairs to get ready for work and when my mom came downstairs she saw Tony laying like he always lays in front of the food dish. My mom quickly realized Tony was dead. My sweet Tony had passed away. My mom couldn't believe it since she just saw him walk in the door. He had no cuts or bumps on him. We think he may have had a heart attack since he was a large cat. My mom is going to take him to the vet to get cremated instead of burying him in the yard.

Oh I will miss my sweet sweet Tony. He loved everyone who came over. He loved to play with the flash light and his golf ball.

Tony I love you and always will. God Bless you!
